Do you back up your data?

General, on your PC, security No Comments »

A couple of weeks ago I had a phone call from a friend of mine saying his computer had crashed and he was unable to access any of his files.

I popped round to see him, checked out his computer and found there had been a hard disk failure.

My next question was do you have a backup of your data, the answer was NO!

I had told him before how important is was to have backup copies of his files so that in the event of this type of situation he could easily get up and running again, but like so many people he thought it would never happen to him, BUT IT DID!

I took away his computer and after a weeks work using some extremely expensive specialist software I managed to recover most of his files, if he hadn’t been a friend this would have cost him a lot of money.

A computer hard disk is a mechanical device and WILL, like any mechanical device, eventually fail, most will outlast the life of the computer but not always.

Most people in the network marketing industry are convince it will never happen to them but occasionally it does, if there are backups of the files stored on your computer, all you need to do is buy a new hard disk, load all of the programs onto it, then restore your personal files from backup and you are back up and running in a few hours.

If you don’t have a backup it is quite possible that you may lose your files altogether. Your programs are easily reloaded but your files are exclusive to you.

It is not difficult to backup all your files either to a data stick, external hard disk or to an online storage facility, one online storage facility that I use is DropBox, ( I dont receive any payment if you sign up through my link) this offers you the opportunity to connect several computers to your account and when you update files on one it automatically updates the same file on all of the others while still giving you 2Gb of space for free, if you need more you have to pay for it.

Email autoresponder reviews

Attraction marketing, Marketing No Comments »

autoreponder image“THE MONEY IS IN THE LIST”

This statement is as true today as it has always been, your email autoresponder is what makes it true, but which autoresponder is best for you, this review will help you make up your mind.

There are basically 2 different categories of autoresponder, those you pay for and those that are free to you.

What is the main difference between the two.

Free autoresponders

Nobody in business does anything for nothing in the long term, you may be given a lot of useful information and help, but eventually they hope you will pay them back by purchasing something.

The owners of the free autoresponder services generally make their money by giving their free members restricted access in terms of the numbers of people they are allowed to sign up and/or they advertise on every email that is sent through their servers. So you are advertising their products to your clients.

That last paragraph should tell you that free email autoresponder services are not a good idea on the long term, they may help you get started but you should move away from them as soon as you can.

Paid for autoreponders

Again these can be divided into two categories self hosted and web hosted.

Self hosted autoresponders, you purchase a script that you run on your servers, this script is exclusive to you and you control its use, this is where the problems occur.

Unless you have a good knowledge of exactly what you are doing and how these scripts are controlled it is easy to make a mistake, get accused of spamming and get your account blocked by all of the major ISP’s.

The good quality scripts also tend to be rather expensive to purchase and then you have to use a hosting company that allows them to run from their servers.

Again unless you are experienced in using these programs and have the time to maintain them properly they are not really suitable.

Web hosted autoresponders are the best choice for the majority of network marketers, there are a huge range to choose from, some have been around a long time, others come and go, and a few new ones look like they will be around for a long time.

What do you need to look for?

Your email autoresponder needs to offer the following facilities:

  • Send UNLIMITED emails and/or AutoResponder messages to UNLIMITED mailing lists.
  • Know EXACTLY who opened, clicked what, and WHEN!
  • The option to use single or double opt-in for your new subscribers
  • Talk to your customer directly using personalization options

These are probably the main options that you need there are other useful options but they are not essential.

A review of a few email autoreponders I personally have had experience with:

Inmica Mail: This is one of the new kids on the block that I think are likely to go places quite rapidly.
It has been around just over a year now but it has recently been totally reprogrammed, as such there are a few bugs that are still to be ironed out.

The main advantage of this program is the price it is coming in at, it is much lower than the other main players in the field.

Aweber: If you have been in this business any length of time you must have come across this one, it is the largest and one of the oldest email autoresponder around.

It has a wide range of excellent features and support but that is reflected in the price they charge, starting from $20 per month.

Get Response: Nearly as old as Aweber this one also has an excellent reputation, again a good range of features and support backing.

Nearly as expensive as Aweber this one starts at $9.95 but by the time you get up to around 5,000 members it is more expensive

Here is a very brief overview of some of the main facilities offered.
